Perhaps more would be unhappy if they were aware of the impact of Republican policies of Reaganomics. To that end, I am maintaining this website long after the campaign to provide information to voters in the second district and across America.
With their victory in November, Republicans now believe they have a mandate to keep the Bush tax cuts even for incomes above $1 million. This, while they claim to be concerned about the budget deficit. Whether Obama and the Senate will be able to stand against this is not a very good bet.
A continuation of tax cuts for the rich will continue to make America more and more unequal. Further, as wealth and income are more concentrated into the hands of the top 1%, so too is the power to buy elections. It's not one person, one vote, it's one dollar one vote. Having purchased their own Congress, they can then use that political power to cut assistance to the needy and also to increase taxes on the middle class, as the deficit commission is now proposing.
Those policies will then put even more money into the hands of the rich, which continues the cycle. We may, in fact, already be past the point of no return, and may never regain a government that does not represent the rich against the rest of us.
Does Congresswoman Jenkins represent you, or does she represent the richest 5% of Americans?
Jenkins voted AGAINST
- $500 tax cut for all working people
- spending for highway projects all throughout the 2nd district
- $4.8 billion in spending for veteran's benefits
- $1.1 billion in spending for farm programs and rural development
- $8 billion in spending on health care for children
Jenkins voted FOR, or co-sponsored
- larger tax cuts for families with incomes over $90,000
- permanent annual tax cuts of over $150 billion for millionaires
- permanent tax cuts of $18 billion a year for multi-millionaires
- annual tax cuts of $100 billion for people with estates valued over $3.5 million
Jenkins claims to be concerned about the debt we are passing on to our children and grandchildren and yet she supports tax cuts that would add more trillions to that debt, all the while she voted to cut programs that benefit people in the second district. Is she being honest about who she really represents? This is your chance to hold her accountable, to represent all of the people, not just the richest and most conservative.
